Arteta asked to play Aubameyang as center forward

Arsenal actually had a good start in the Premier League when they won their first two games against Fulham and West Ham United. However, when they visited Anfield, Tuesday (29/9/2020), Arsenal did not move.

Aubameyang, who was relied on as a goal machine, could do nothing because not a single attempt was made. Even though Aubameyang had a lot of goals when played in the attacking position, last season he scored 22 goals.

In addition, in the Community Shield match against Liverpool last month, Aubameyang played a similar role. But, it’s good that Arteta starts making changes at this time.

Moreover, there are statistics that Arsenal only released a total of 24 attempts from three matches, only superior to West Bromwich Albion with 22 attempts, the lowest among other teams.

Former Manchester United player Owen Hargreaves suggested to Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta to play Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a center forward.

According to Hargreaves, Aubameyang could be plotted in that position to replace Alexandre Lacazette. Meanwhile, Aubameyang’s position as a wing striker can be occupied by young players, Bukayo Saka.

“Maybe reserve Lacazette, play Aubameyang as a center forward. [Bukayo] Saka can play as a striker, [and] as a wing back,” Hargreaves told Premier League Productions as reported by Metro.

Aubameyang did look bad when Arsenal defeated Liverpool 1-3 in the third week of the Premier League at Anfield Stadium, Tuesday (29/9).

The Gabonese striker did not make a significant contribution to the team. Aubameyang did not even fire a shot that aimed at Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Referring to Squawka, Aubameyang’s negative note for failing to open a shot at goal is the third time. Apart from this match, Aubameyang had experienced something similar against Tottenham Hotspur in 2018 and Leicester City in 2019.

Meanwhile, Lacazette’s performance on the front lines was no better than Aubameyang. Despite scoring Arsenal’s only goal in this match, the French forward missed two golden opportunities to break into Alisson’s goal.

Lacazette’s kick was twice able to be read by the Brazilian goalkeeper. In fact, on both occasions Lacazette had only to face one on one with Alisson.

Arsenal actually won 1-0 in that match. However, the Reds went on a rampage by creating three goals through Sadio Mane, Andrew Robertson, and new player Diogo Jota.
