Borussia Dortmund vs Atletico Madrid Results: Score 4-2 (Agg. 5-4)

Borussia Dortmund appeared tough to beat Atletico Madrid with a landslide score of 4-2. The two teams competed in the second leg of the 2023/2024 Champions League quarter-final duel, Tuesday (16/4/2024).

Playing at Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund is aiming for victory to catch up on the aggregate. Last week, they lost with a score of 1-2 on a visit to the Metropolitano.

The match was open from the early minutes. A rain of six goals was scored in this match. Atletico fought back well, but Dortmund were more efficient.

Dortmund’s four goals were scored by Julian Brandt (34′), Ian Maatsen (39′), Niclas Fullkrug (71′), and Marcel Sabitzer (74′). Meanwhile, Atletico responded with own goals from Mats Hummels (49′) and Angel Correa (64′).

A 4-2 win at home led Dortmund to secure 5-4 on aggregate. Atletico eliminated. Dortmund qualified for the semifinals of the 2023/2024 Champions League.

Dortmund immediately took the initiative to attack as soon as the match started. Sabitzer had a shooting opportunity in the 3rd minute, but still held on to the ball for too long. 15 minutes passed.

Atletico seemed to play more defensively in this match. They are superior in aggregate. It’s natural for Diego Simeone’s troops to play it safe. 30 minutes passed.

In the 34th minute, Dortmund finally broke the deadlock. The attack scheme was built slowly, Hummels released a cross into the attack line. Brandt controlled the ball, passed Witsel and shot low. Goal! Dortmund 1-0 Atletico.

In the 71st minute, Dortmund took the lead again. Fast attack scheme from the left side. Sabitzer’s cross was met by Fullkrug’s hard header. Goal! Dortmund 3-2 Atletico.

In the 74th minute, Dortmund pulled away. Brandt’s movement was stopped by the opponent, but Sabitzer then grabbed the ball at the edge of the penalty box, followed by a low shot. Goal! Dortmund 4-2 Atletico.

After that, Dortmund changed their playing style to secure the score. No changes. Final score 4-2. Aggregate 5-4 for Dortmund to win.
