At the beginning of the first season, Ducati opened their 2017 season with superb form of Andrea Dovizioso who finished second at Losail, Qatar. However, Jorge Lorenzo failed to impress everyone. In the second series, Ducati wash crashed because both riders failed to finish their race.
While in Jerez, Ducati proved their worth with Lorenzo by finishing the race at third, while his team-mate Dovizioso finished two strips behind him to bring the Italian team to third place in MotoGP table standings.
Speaking to Motorinews 24 in an interview, Ducati Corse Sporting Deirector Paolo Ciabatti said his team will struggle and win this championship at the end of the season.
“Our intention is clearly to win the championship. And I’m sure we’ll do it,” Ciabatti said. “There is still work to be done on the bike. It has progressed as the results show, but we still lack sometihnig. We’re working on that.
“There will be great novelties during the second part of the season with aim of eliminating our weak points or worst, reducing them. This will help our riders, particularly Jorge. But it will also help Dovizioso and Petrucci.” Ciabatti added.
Dovizioso is the spearhead of Borgo Panigale, while Lorenzo, who was supposed to pick the laurels, is trying to trace his path. Third overall in six points of the leader Marc Marquez and to one of Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales, the Italian cannot decently be taken out of the equation to give the result at the end of the year.
“It’s difficult because there are very good riders and builders who have much more means than Ducati, but we proved that we could be in the trick on very different circuits.” Ciabatti said.
“We are there, and Dovizioso is in a great form, he is very confident and very fast. It started well witlh a second place in Qatar, it experienced and empty passage then but it returned with a historic victory to Mugello, Montmelo followed. We are very happy.” he added.
