Rafael Nadal claims the fourth US Open title in his career.

In New York this season, Rafael Nadal has a mission. His mission was fulfilled when he successfully claimed the fourth US Open title in his career after an epic match at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday (08/09) local time.

Struggling all out for 4 hours 49 minutes, Nadal was finally able to subvert the fifth seed, Daniil Medvedev with tight results 7-5, 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, 6-4. Nadal made Medvedev work hard for each of his points and overcome Medvedev’s aggressive play in one of the final five epic sets in the Grand Slam.

The tension of the match heats up when the 23-year-old Medvedev gets up after falling in the first two sets and pushes into the fifth set. But with his persistence and distinctive game, Nadal dashed hopes of the challenger in the US Open final this season in order to reach the finish line impressively.

By winning the US Open title this season which became the 19th Grand Slam title in his career. Nadal is now just one title adrift of Roger Federer as the men’s tennis player with the most Grand Slam titles (20).

“This victory is so important to me,” Nadal said as he wiped his tears during the trophy handover ceremony.

“Especially after the match it became more and more difficult. I was able to suppress my tension. I felt the tension was so high. It was a really extraordinary match and I was just very emotional. ”

“That was an amazing final. Daniil is only 23 years old, he is able to fight and change the rhythm of the game is unexpected. He will have more opportunities like this. ”

Thanks to the victory, Nadal maintained his impressive performance, including recording 10 wins in a row. These glorious achievements included winning titles at
Roma and Roland Garros, appearing in the Wimbledon semifinals, and claimed the title in Montreal. In Montreal, precisely last month, he also defeated Medvedev with a more convincing result 6-3, 6-0.

After the US Open, Nadal’s attention will turn to the Shanghai masters which will be held next October.

Earlier, Rafael Nadal warned fans of the men’s tennis world that the era of the Big Three (Roger Federer, Nadal, and Novak Djokovic) would soon be over and he was not at all worried about that.

The 33-year-old Nadal, who has pocketed 18 Grand Slam titles, will try to add to his Grand Slam collection when facing world number 5 Daniil Medvedev in the final of the US Open this season.

Together with players who have collected 20 Grand Slam titles, Federer and those who have claimed 16 Grand Slam titles, Djokovic, Nadal has been a historical part of three players who won 54 of the last 65 Grand Slams in singles, including 11 consecutive Grand Slams.

However, Nadal warned that the time to close the round was approaching.
“We don’t need to defend this era anymore,” Nadal admitted. “We have been in the tennis world for almost 15 years. At one point, sooner or later this era will end. “
