G2 x IG joins Team Zero as the two teams going to TI13 through the Chinese regional qualifier.
G2 x IG is the third Dota 2 team to qualify for The International 2024 (TI13) through the regional qualifiers after they defeated Azure Ray, 2-0, in the lower bracket finals of the tournament’s Chinese regional qualifier.
G2 x IG will also be the third Chinese representative at TI13. They will be joining Team Zero, who scored the first regional qualifier spot after a surprising run through the upper bracket, and Xtreme Gaming, who were directly invited.
How G2 x IG punched their ticket to TI13
Many expected Azure Ray would have to go through the likes of G2 x IG and LGD Gaming if they hoped to earn a spot at TI13, though only the former would end up coming close to a spot at TI13.
Azure Ray had a strong start to the qualifier, as many expected, scoring back-to-back 2-1 victories over KEV and LGD Gaming to advance to the upper bracket finals. There, they faced an unexpected contender in Team Zero for the first of two regional qualifier spots for China in TI13.
In one of the biggest upsets of the year so far, Team Zero defeated Azure Ray, 2-1, to become the surprise first team to advance to TI13 from the Chinese regional qualifier. But despite this loss, Azure Ray still had a second chance to make it to TI13 in the lower bracket finals against G2 x IG.
Azure Ray were in good position to secure their slot in TI13 after a dominant win in game one of the series. However, G2 x IG managed to bounce back and pull off the reverse sweep to instead become the ones securing a ticket to Copenhagen instead.
The International 2024 (TI13) Teams
This year sixteen teams will compete at TI13. Valve announced the six teams that received a direct invite to The International 2024. The remaining ten teams will come from regional qualifiers. For The International, there will be only six regions – sorry MENA, you are lumped in with WEU as usual.
