Chelsea coach Graham Potter talks about his team’s activities in the upcoming 2023 summer transfer market. He is not sure if the team nicknamed The Blues will pour out funds like last winter’s transfer window.
Yes, Chelsea is a team that is considered very active in the 2023 winter transfer market. The reason is that they brought in quite a few players to strengthen the squad so they can improve their position on the 2022-2023 Premier League standings board.
Seeing his team’s activities in the 2023 winter transfer market, Graham Potter is unsure if Chelsea will do the same in the next summer transfer window. He admitted that the Blues spent a lot of money to regenerate the team.
“I don’t think spending is going to continue the way it is now,” Potter said.
“There is regeneration and I think we have to say the next window and the window after will be different, that’s for sure,” he said.
Furthermore, Potter does not agree that Chelsea is called a crazy team that spends a lot of money in the transfer market. The former Brighton & Hove Albion coach thinks that what Chelsea is doing is good enough for the future.
“I can understand his perspective. I don’t agree with that but I understand it,” explained Graham Potter.
“I think what we’re trying to do is be creative. We have tried to invest in the present and the future. We are in a position where we want to continue to grow. That is the club’s ambition.” It is recorded that Chelsea spent a total of £600 million to bring in players in the 2023 winter transfer market.
Most recently, they got Enzo Fernandez from Benfica by spending 121 million euros. Meanwhile, Chelsea is currently in 10th place in the 2022-2023 Premier League standings by collecting 29 points.
In their next match, they will meet Fulham at Stamford Bridge Stadium, London, on Saturday (4/2/2023).
