Lewandowski Keen to End His World Cup Career at Qatar

Robert Lewandowski said his goal against Saudi Arabia a dream come true at the World Cup that could be the last of his career.

The Barcelona superstar scored his first World Cup goal to lead Poland to an impressive 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia on Sunday night.

Lewandowski burst into tears after this moment when he scored for the first time in the most prestigious arena of his life.

“Today, everything I had inside, the dreams, the importance of the occasion, all those dreams from my childhood came through. It was so significant.” Lewandowski said.

“The older I get, the more emotional I get. I always wanted to score at the World Cup and this dream came true.

“I know this could be the last World Cup of my life and I’m hungry to score. Of course, the team’s overall victory is still the most important thing.” Lewandowski added.

Lewandowski has been with Poland national team since 2009. Until the match against Saudi Arabia, he played 135 matches, scoring 76 goals for Poland but no goals at the World Cup.

In the opening match of the 2022 World Cup against Mexico, the 34-year-old striker missed the opportunity when he missed the penalty kick.

“I was tormented after the missed penalty last game. To score in the World Cup has always been my childhood dream.” Lewandowski said.

“I squandered a lot of opportunities but am glad I learned from them. Poland are giving their best and that means the most.” he added.

Lewandowski’s goal helped Poland top Group C after the second match with four points. They only need to draw with Argentina in the last round to be sure to have a ticket to the knockout round, which has not happened since the 1986 World Cup.
