Manchester United on Monday afternoon confirmed their trip to Brentford Stadium on Tuesday night to be postponed following the Covid-19 outbreak in the club’s squad and staff.
“The club is in discussion with the Premier League whether it is safe for Tuesday’s fixture against Brentford to continue, both from a Covid infection and player preparation perspective.” United said in a statement.
“Team and staff travel to London will be deferred pending the result of that discussion.” The Red Devils added.
Speaking earlier on Monday, Thomas Frank, the Brentford manager, said he was continuing to prepare his side for the visit of United amid the uncertainty.
“We are planning to play the game. That’s what we are focusing on. We can’t control anything else.” Frank said.
Leicester had to play against Newcastle when there were 7 players missing in last weekend, it believed to be because of Covid-19. And so far they are still getting ready for Thursday’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.
On the other hand, the Premier League has yet to make a decision on whether the match will take place or not.
While, in the series of round 17 of the Premier League on Tuesday, the match between Norwich and Aston Villa is also assessed as a very high risk of disease when both teams have many cases, but it seems that the match will still take place out as planned.
United were far from at their best against Norwich City on Saturday, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s 75th-minute penalty secured a huge three points for United.
Ralf Ragnick’s side are currently fifth in the division, one point behind fourth-placed West Ham United, while Brentford sit 10th courtesy of a 2-1 win over Watford on Friday night.
