The NBA released the latest MVP race update on Friday, putting Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic in the lead. Thus, he topped Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was in first place last week.
Moreover, the Greek star dropped to fifth place. After all, Jayson Tatum and Luka Doncic complete the top 3, and Kevin Durant is fourth in the ranking.
Jokic, after all, had an inspired week to top the NBA MVP race. The current two-time champion of the award, among other things, helped the Nuggets reach the top of the Western Conference.
He, in the four games of the week, he averaged 32.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 10.8 assists. That is, almost a triple-double average.
Jokic has won the last two MVPs award. If he gets another this season, he join Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell as the only players to win three straight.
In second place is Jayson Tatum, great name of the Boston Celtics, team with the best campaign of the season. Incidentally, the young star led the team to four wins last week.
However, Tatum averaged 34.5 points and 8.5 rebounds. In addition, he made 48.4% of field goals. The Celtics number 0 is the fifth scorer of the season (31 points average).
Luka Doncic rose from seventh to third in the MVP race with a spectacular week. Coupled with the Slovenian’s great performance, the Dallas Mavericks engaged a five-game winning streak and reached sixth place in the West.
But, in the last week, Doncic achieved a triple-double average: 44.2 points, 12.5 rebounds and 10.5 assists.
Moreover, the Slovenian became the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double of 60 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists.
The mark was reached in the duel against the New York Knicks, on last Tuesday. This season, Doncic is the leagues’top scorer (33.7 points) and fourth in assists (8.9).
However, if he continues to perform at a stellar level, and the Mavericks climb positions on the table, Doncic should fight for the top of the MVP race.
Rounding out the top ten MVP contenders are Joel Embiid, Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, Jaylen Brown and Donovan Mitchell.
