Sergio Perez Continues to Assess All of His Options for 2021

Racing Point driver Sergio Perez still doesn’t know what he will do next year, but the Mexican insists he isn’t ruling out any options, nor that of to retire.

Perez will leave Racing Point at the end of the 2020 season, paving the way for Sebastian Vettel to join from Ferrari. He is often cited as a Haas or Alfa Romeo driver next year in Formula 1, but so far the Racing Point driver hasn’t made any announcements, not least because he wants to explore all the options that come up offer to him for 2021.

“After 10 years in the sport, I want a challenge that motivates me to give myself one hundred percent every lap, every morning to go train and travel the world. I need it.” Perez said.

“If I can’t find that, I won’t stay in the sport, I could take a [sabbatical] year, see what options are available to me a year later, or I could look for another category, or retire.

“I study all the scenarios. My priority is to continue in the sport, I am only 30 years old and I feel that I have so much to give, and I am in the prime of my life. But that’s not for me to decide, we’ll have to see the options.” Perez added.

Perez had previously insisted he was not leaving, pointing out that he had a contract running until 2022. However, he played a key role in preventing the team going out of business when it was known as Force Indie in 2018.

“Nothing is signed yet but there has been progress, so we will see in the coming weeks. Like I said before, I think at this point nobody is in a rush. Neither the teams, nor me, therefore, wait. There is a long way to go.” Perez said.

“I have to see what the possibilities are. Next week [this week] I will know exactly which options are realistic and which are not. So I’ll make a decision very soon. But I’m in no rush, all scenarios are promising.” he added.
