Coach Shin Tae Yong was surprised to be suddenly dismissed by Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) from his position as the head coach of the Indonesian National Team.
Shin Tae Yong was officially dismissed as coach of the Indonesian National Team on Monday (6/1/2024). According to Shin, the dismissal by PSSI was on the same day, or without prior notice.
Being dismissed suddenly after five years of coaching the Garuda Squad made Shin Tae Yong full of surprise. Even so, the coach from South Korea accepted the decision.
“(The Indonesian Football Association) informed me of my dismissal at 09:40 on the 6th and announced that the new coach would arrive at 12 noon that day,” said Shin tae Yong at the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (KOCHAM) event quoted from Yonhap.
“Although I don’t understand it, I humbly accept it,” added Shin tae Yong.
Appearing at KOCHAM was Shin Tae Yong’s first time in public after being dismissed by the Indonesian National Team.
Despite being fired, Shin Tae Yong is still proud of what he has done for the Red and White Team for the past five years.
The former South Korean national team coach has recorded a number of records for Indonesia at various levels. Starting from qualifying for the last 16 of the Asian Cup for the first time, to the semifinals of the U-23 Asian Cup for the first time, to increasing Indonesia’s ranking in the FIFA rankings to 127th.
“I worked very hard and succeeded in my five years in Indonesia. I am proud of myself,” said Shin.
“I return home very proud because I have planted strong roots in Indonesian football,” continued Shin.
On that occasion, Shin was grateful that during his time handling the Indonesian National Team he received full support from behind the scenes.
