Iga Swiatek The Polish tennis player has announced his decision to part ways with his longtime coach, Piotr Sierzputowski.

The two have worked together for more than five seasons, but the world number 9 feels now is the time for a change.

The 2020 French Open champion is now entering pre-season and preparing for the 2022 Australian Open season which starts on 17 January. That’s why the news came as a shock to fans, after the time was near for the first Grand Slam of the 2022 season.

The 20-year-old tennis player shared the important news through her social media accounts.

In a tweet, Swiatek wrote, “The preparation period is underway and I am fully training, but this time I come to you all with important information.”

“After more than five seasons, I have decided to end my relationship with my coach, Piotr Sierzputowski. This change really challenged me and this decision was not easy for me.”

The world number 9 believes that change is needed so that she can develop herself further and push things in new directions.

“I know that sometimes in our professional lives we need a change to develop more, evolve and meet other people with whom we will work together for the next phase of our development,” added the Polish national.

Despite all that, this season’s WTA Finals debutant has nothing but memorable words about his former coach, thanking him for everything, and playing a significant role in getting him to where he is today.

“I want to thank you Coach for all the things you have done for me,” continued Iga Swiatek.

“I owe you a lot and really appreciate the time we spent together. All those seasons got us where we are today.”

The Polish national ended the announcement by stating that he wanted to keep his attention on preparations for the upcoming season, especially ahead of the Australian Open.

“I want to focus on pre-season without any external pressure. I hope you will understand it,” concluded Swiatek.

According to Polish tennis magazine Tenisklub, the new coach of the 2020 French Open champion is expected to be Tomasz Wiktorowski, who has coached compatriot Agnieszka Radwanska.
