Chelsea managed to transport Robert Sanchez from Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2023 summer transfer market. Sanchez was also brought in to fill the void left by Edouard Mendy who chose to move to the Saudi Arabian League with Al-Ahli.
This good news was announced by Chelsea through their social media and official website today, Saturday (5/8/2023). Sanchez is contracted for seven seasons until the end of June 2030.
“Chelsea Football Club has completed the transfer of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from Brighton & Hove Albion,” read a Chelsea statement on its official website, Saturday (5/8/2023).
Chelsea Technical Director, Laurence Stewart, welcomed Sanchez’s presence. He considered that the 25-year-old goalkeeper was the right person because it would add to the quality of the goalkeepers owned by The Blues.
“We are very pleased to welcome Robert to Chelsea and he will add further quality to our goalkeeping unit,” said Stewart.
“Robert has proven himself time and time again in the Premier League and for his country. We are very happy to see him working with Mauricio and his coaching team over the next season.”
Sanchez joining Chelsea will certainly make their main goalkeeper competition even more interesting to watch. As we know, currently the Blues have one main goalkeeper, namely Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Sanchez joining Chelsea, as well as making him end his tenure at Brighton. Remember, the Spanish goalkeeper has been part of The Seagulls since 2013. He started his career there by defending the junior team. It is known that Chelsea bought Sanchez from Brighton for a total fee of 25 million pounds. He will be bound by a long-term contract for seven years or until 2030.
There is no doubt that Chelsea are eyeing the services of the 25-year-old player. Remember, Sanchez’s performance with Brighton is quite good. He even succeeded in bringing The Seagulls to the semifinals of the FA Cup last season even though in the end they lost to Manchester United on penalties.
