Premier League Results: Chelsea Lost to West Ham

Chelsea were forced to give up 2-3 by West Ham United in the 15th week of the Premier League at the London Stadium, Saturday (4/12).

Chelsea had their first chance through Hakim Ziyech in the sixth minute, but his shot from inside the box was saved by West Ham’s defense. Meanwhile, West Ham’s first chance came in the eighth minute through Jarrod Bowen, but it was still wide to the left of the Chelsea goal.

The Blues got another chance through Reece James in the 10th minute, but his shot from inside the penalty box could still be anticipated by the West Ham goalkeeper.

Chelsea took the lead in the 28th minute through defender Thiago Silva’s header after capitalizing on Mason Mount’s assist from a corner.

After bringing Chelsea ahead, Silva also made a brilliant save after thwarting the Hammers’ goal opportunity through Vladimir Coufal in the 30th minute.

West Ham just scored to equalize in the 40th minute through Manuel Lanzini’s penalty. The penalty was awarded after goalkeeper Edouard Mendy fouled Jarrod Bowen.

Lanzini’s execution of a penalty to the right side of the goal outwit Mendy who moved to the left.

However, Mount’s goal in the 44th minute after maximizing Hakim Ziyech’s pass put the visitors back 2-1 ahead in the first half.

Mount’s goal was created spectacularly. Ziyech’s cross was well cleared by Mount with a right-footed volley that went into a tight angle out of reach of goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

Despite being behind, West Ham continued to put pressure on Chelsea. In the 56th minute Bowen scored the equalizer after his shot to the right could not be reached by Mendy.

Chelsea tried to score a goal back to bring home the three points from the headquarters of West Ham. However, the hosts who managed to add to the coffers of his goals in the 87th minute.

Getting a pass from a deep throw on the left, Arthur Asuaku was more successful with a left-footed shot that goalkeeper Edouard Mendy couldn’t anticipate.

Mendy looked surprised to see the ball heading towards the near post as he prepared to anticipate a cross.

The Blues continued to apply pressure to avoid defeat in the remaining time. However, Thomas Tuchel’s squad was unable to score a reply until the referee blew the long whistle.

This result makes Chelsea’s position at the top of the Premier League standings threatened with being evicted by the two teams below it, Manchester City and Liverpool.
